Following the brawl, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) suspended the players involved for 18 months and the coaches for three years. The players' suspensions were later reduced to six months on appeal, allowing several players from both teams to return for the 1988 tournament in Moscow. Both nations won medals in 1988, with Canada taking the gold and the Soviets winning silver.
Mike Keane paired off against Valeri Zelepukin, with the Canadian "fighting like it was for the world title" according to Fleury.[27] In another fight, Vladimir Konstantinov levelled a head-butt that broke Greg Hawgood's nose; Brendan Shanahan later described it as "the greatest head-butt I've ever seen".[28] Stéphane Roy was pummelled by two Soviet players.[29] The remaining players paired off as the officials attempted to break up the fighting. There were at least a dozen separate fights over the entire ice surface.[30] Unable to control the situation, Rønning and his linesmen eventually left the ice under the orders of Czechoslovakian officials.[31] In a desperate attempt at ending the brawl, tournament officials had the arena lights turned off, leaving the players to fight in the dark as the fans whistled loudly in disapproval of the entire situation. The whole stadium shouted "My chceme hokej, my chceme hokej", which translates to "We want hockey, we want hockey". By the time the fights had finally broken up, the IIHF declared the game null and void.[32]

After voting to eject the two teams, IIHF officials banned the Soviets from the tournament banquet and medal ceremony but still invited Canada. McDonald stated the Canadians were not interested, Sabetzki and Czechoslovak officials ordered the Canadian team out of the arena within half an hour.[35] They were met by armed soldiers who escorted them across the border and out of Czechoslovakia.[36] The IIHF voided the standings of both teams. In the words of McDonald, "it was like we were never here."[37] However, the other teams kept the points they gained in the matches against both teams.[38]
Both teams attempted to blame the other for allowing the violence to get out of hand. Soviet official Anatoly Kastriukov blamed a Canadian trainer for igniting hostilities by running over to the Soviet bench and punching one of their assistant coaches in the stomach.[39] The Canadians, meanwhile, pointed to Davydov being the first off the bench as being the spark that led to the brawl.[40] CBC commentator Don Cherry was one of the first to float a conspiracy theory that the Soviets had done so as a deliberate attempt to have Canada ejected, and therefore lose a medal.[41] Alan Eagleson suggested that the IIHF's decision would have been different had it been the Soviets in contention for a medal, and not the Canadians.[42] Soviet administrator Yuri Korolev expressed regret that the incident occurred but did not admit any guilt. He felt that the game should have been finished instead of both teams being disqualified from the tournament.[43]
At the 1988 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in Moscow, Canada and the Soviet Union won the gold and silver medals, respectively, as both teams' rosters featured several players from the 1987 tournament.[50] Since the 1987 tournament, the two nations have maintained their dominance of the tournament. Canada has won 15 gold medals between 1988 and 2020, while the Soviet Union, and its successor, Russia, has won six.[9]
I was messing around in the API for something completely unrelated and ended up finding the medal descriptions under "/Destiny2/Stats/Definition/". Must've been added pretty recently because nobody seems to have noticed yet. So, without further delay, here's a table of all the Destiny 2 PvP medals in the API along with their descriptions (Google Sheets link at the bottom):
There are at least 52 different medals. As far as I can tell the red/white ones are for individual achievements or kinetic/energy weapon kills regardless of overall result. The orange/grey ones are for team achievements and special/super/ability kills and the yellow ones are for rare achievements.
I'm also pretty sure that there are some medals which don't appear on Destiny tracker. I'm pretty sure there is one for winning by the mercy rule (ie get a certain number of points ahead by a certain time).
So it turns out that the running theory of the rewards being given out at the weekly reset was correct. For every torch you ignite the previous week you can claim a Medallion Torch Rewards package from Eva Levante once the weekly reset happens. The quality of the rewards obviously varies depending on how many medals you turn in so make sure to try for Platinum each week!
To earn Medallion Torch Rewards you will need to first complete the Best in Class quest. This is an easy quest that just introduces you to the various activities and basics of Guardian Games. Upon finishing this quest, you will get the Medallion Battalion quest which asks you to turn in medallions at the podium to earn points. This will fill up the progress bar at the bottom of the quest.
Speaking of Gold and Platinum medals are tied to two different types of Contender Cards. Unlike the other medals, you cannot earn these by just completing an activity. Instead, you need to go visit Eva Levante in The Tower and purchase either a Contender Card or a Platinum Card. The former will reward Gold medals and is tied to typical playlist activities but require you to meet certain requirements like killing enemies with Stasis or Void. It costs 100 Laurels to purchase a basic Contender Card. You can also earn a few Gold medallions via triumphs, but this is more of a reward for grinding out specific activities.
To earn Medallion Torch Rewards from Eva, you will need to complete different steps in the Medallion Battalion quest. This quest is earned at the end of the Best in Class mission and it has you turning in medals to fill up a progress bar. Once you hit 100%, you will be asked to return to The Tower where you can light the corresponding torch just beyond the main podium. This should allow you to go to Eva and claim the Medallion Torch Reward tied to the color of the torch you lit (Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.) That being said, this appears to be bugged as I have lit my Bronze torch above but cannot claim the package. This appears to be a glitch, since I should be able to claim my package from her for lighting this torch.
So, I will now read the citations for our two very distinguished award recipients and present to them their medals. Perhaps I should mention that our first recipient today -- the one who calls me kid -- [laughter] -- is the son of immigrants, from a country called Ireland.
``During World War I, Mike Mansfield, not yet 15, enlisted in the United States Navy, crossing the Atlantic seven times before he was discharged. His service to country would span seven decades and would help shape America's destiny as a Pacific power. Through 34 years in Congress -- including 16 as Senate majority leader -- and with more than a decade as U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Mike Mansfield has set his indelible mark upon American foreign policy and distinguished himself as a dedicated public servant and loyal American.''
While participating in the Guardian Games Strike playlists, make sure you complete Platinum and Contender Cards to get medals for your Class. You'll need Destiny 2 Laurels to buy those cards, which are easily earned in these playlists, but you could also check out the Destiny 2 Daily Focus for Guardian Games 2022.
During the introduction quest, each player receives a special class item which allows them to generate and collect laurels. Enemies defeated with supers, grenades and melee abilities drop class laurels, which can be used to buy Contender Cards. Laurels drop in all activities except for Gambit and Crucible, where they are awarded after a match has ended. Unrecovered laurels do not go to the Postmaster and must be picked up to count. Contender Cards are special quests sold by Eva, they reward players with gold or platinum medals.
In the Season of the Chosen, laurels and medals are stored in the Medal Case found in the Quest inventory. Medals are obtained by completing activities, Triumphs and Contender Cards, and have to be deposited at the Guardian Games Podium located in the Tower Courtyard. Depositing medals increases the class' score and rewards the player with Legendary gear from the open world drop pool, Upgrade Modules, Enhancement Cores, as well as Shaders and Emblems from the last year's Guardian Games.
In the Season of the Worthy, players had to wear the event class item to be able to obtain and complete event bounties and medals. Medals used to be handed out by Eva, and had an objective which had to be completed before the medal could be deposited. Depositing medals awarded packages depending on the medal type, and increased the class' daily score.
The Guardian Games Podium contains three receptacles with three banners over them, representing each of the three classes. Players deposit medals into their class' receptacle to raise their banner. The Podium changes daily to reflect the current status of the leading team. Event class items change their color to show the class' current standing: gold for first, silver for second, and bronze for the third place. When Guardian Games end, the class item's appearance locks on the color that represents their overall score for the whole year.
Medals are earned by completing Contender Cards, that quest you just bought from Eva. Most low-tier cards grant Gold medals, while higher-tier cards grant Platinum medals. For this step, you just need to finish your card. 2ff7e9595c
